Michael Jackson to Appear on “American Idol?”

Pop star Michael Jackson will appear on his hit reality show American Idol and may even mentor contestants, according to media reports.

Jackson is currently working on a comeback and has turned to "Idol" creator Simon Fuller to help revive his career.

According to RealityTVMagazine.com, the star will have his own "Idol" theme-week and may mentor the talent on the show.

Producers of the show have hinted for weeks at a "big event show" during the new season and during a recent conference call, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe mentioned Jackson, saying they wouldn’t want it to "slip out with somebody telling their mom that Michael Jackson is coming."

The star is also working with choreographer and director Kenny Ortega, who said last week that Jackson is weighing all his options regarding a comeback.

Ortega explains, "We’re talking business and looking at lots of different possibilities. This is blue-sky time with a lot of different scenarios up in the air.

"We’re working through all of them to find the best, the one that makes the most sense and that’s good for everybody."

Toni Braxton Settles Lawsuit With Former Manager

Toni Braxton is free to pursue new projects after settling a lawsuit with her former personal manager.

Representatives for the Grammy Award winner and Barry Hankerson confirmed that Braxton has returned a $375,000 advance and will pay Hankerson royalties from her next album.

According to Braxton’s lawyer, Michael Sitrick, Hankerson had previously demanded an additional $1 million from the R&B singer with only a partial release from her contract but Hankerson refutes the claim.

Braxton filed the papers in a U.S. District Court in Manhattan on January 12, accusing Hankerson of profitting from her switch from Arista Records to his own Blackground Records label in 2003. She claimed Hankerson owed her at least $10 million from the label change.

James Brown’s Family Told to Finalize Burial Plans

James Brown’s widow Tomi Rae Hynie and the soul star’s six adult children have been told to try and agree upon a final resting place for the singer – so he can rest in peace.

Brown’s body has remained at an undisclosed location, while trustees of the Godfather of Soul’s estate, his widow and family members dispute his will and legacy.

Hynie has made it public that Brown wanted to be buried in an incomplete mausoleum on the grounds of the home they shared in Beech Island, South Carolina.

At the close of a court hearing on Friday, Judge Doyet Early told the family members to come to an arrangement about burial plans.

Hynie was given good news during the hearing – Judge Early ordered estate trustees, who have locked her out of the house since her husband’s death on Christmas Day, to allow her to return and claim her belongings.

The judge insisted that any contentious items should be left at the house until a court could decide on who should claim them.

Hynie, Brown’s fourth wife, was delighted with the decision, and was spotted hugging her eldest step-child, Venisha Brown, before returning to the home she shared with the soul star for the first time since his death.

She said, "I’m happy to be getting my things and my son’s things."

Judge Early also gave Hynie permission to take pictures and videotape her home’s interior.

Hynie and Brown’s children were in court to dispute the management of the late star’s estate, asking for authorities to remove the appointed trustees.

Attorneys for the trustees plan to counter sue the family members. An attorney handling Brown’s will has asked authorities in South Carolina for a restraining order against the family, claiming they have interfered with the administration of the estate.

The case continues as the authorities decide whether to remove the trustees or appoint a special administrator for the estate.

Grammys Bow Down to “The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul”

"Ladies and gentleman, we are The Police and we are back!" A roar of applause could be heard as frontman Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers opened the 49th Annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in L.A.

In their first public performance in almost 23 years, not counting the group’s 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the recently reunited rock trio, had the crowd on their feet while performing "Roxanne." The legendary band is expected to announce a reunion tour during a press conference on Monday.

Although The Police were apart of an historic moment, it was the ladies of R&B and country who stole the Grammy spotlight.

"For so many years I’ve been talked about negatively and this time I am being talked about positively by so many people," said an emotional Mary J. Blige after picking up the R&B album of the year for her comeback LP ‘The Breakthrough.’ This was the first of her three awards for the night.

"The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul," who says she has not only grown as an artist, but as a person, has had a career full of ups and downs. However, she has finally received the recognition she deserved at the awards ceremony. She gave an emotional testimony about how love has changed her life before belting out her Grammy nominated song "Be Without You."

She also joined Ludacris on stage for a performance of their new song "Runaway Love." The Atlanta bred rapper won the Best Rap Album Grammy for ‘Release Therapy.’ The two stars were joined by multiple Grammy winners Earth, Wind and Fire in an electrifying special Grammy segment.

The Dixie Chicks also shined at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards, winning the most awards for the night. Natalie Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire were honored five times and were awarded with two of the biggest honors of the night, Album of the Year for ‘Taking The Long Way,’ and Song of the Year for "Not Ready To Make Nice."

The trio thanked their core fans who stuck with them through the backlash they received after lead singer Natalie Maines’ controversial comments about President George W. Bush in 2003.

American Idol also got props at the Grammys. Carrie Underwood was named Best New Artist and won the Best Female Country Performance award. Songwriters for her hit "Jesus, Take The Wheel," were also honored Sunday night. She even performed with Rascal Flatts in a tribute to country rock.

Underwood’s the second "Idol" to win at the prestigious ceremony, after Kelly Clarkson won two Grammys in 2006. Jennifer Hudson, an "Idol" finalist and Oscar nominated actress was also at the Grammys to announce the winner of the "My Grammy Moment" singing competition.

19-year-old Houston, Texas native Robyn Troup sang a duet in a special performance with Justin Timberlake, who won two Grammys. In a once in a lifetime moment, Robyn sang Bill Withers’ "Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone," and helped Timberlake and rapper T.I., who won two Grammys, on "My Love." She will also go home with a brand new Chevy HHR.

Other big winners for the night were the Red Hot Chili Peppers, winning four Grammys, including Best Rock Album for ‘Stadium Arcadium.’ Ludacris and John Mayer, who also performed, went home with two trophies.

Levert’s Death Caused by Prescription and Over-the-Counter Drugs

Late R&B singer Gerald Levert died last November after taking a lethal mixture of prescription and over-the-counter drugs, a coroner has revealed.

Geauga County, Cleveland Coroner Kevin Chartrand said the official cause of death was acute intoxication, and ruled the death accidental.

The drugs found in Levert’s bloodstream included the narcotic pain relievers Vicodin, Percocet and Darvocet, as well as anxiety medicine Xanax and two over-the-counter antihistamines.

Andy Gibson, a spokesman for the Levert family, said the singer had been taking the medication to ease discomfort from a lingering shoulder problem and surgery in 2005 to repair a severed Achilles tendon.

The autopsy also revealed the singer had pneumonia.

Levert died on November 10 at his home near Cleveland, Ohio. He was 40 years old.

James Brown’s Widow Granted Access to Home

James Brown’s widow Tomi Rae Hynie has been given permission to return to the home she shared with the late soul great to collect her belongings after a face-off with her step children in court.

Hynie is currently contesting her late husband’s will after discovering she and her five-year-old son have been left out of inheriting anything from the Godfather of Soul.

The aspiring singer has been locked out of the South Carolina home she shared with Brown since his death on Christmas.

Hynie and Brown’s six adult children were in court in South Carolina Friday morning after suing three trustees they allege have mismanaged the soul star’s estate. The family want the trustees removed.
